What grape varieties are in this wine?
100% Sangiovese.

Where are the grapes grown?
North East Victoria.

What does it smell like?
This wine has tempting aromas of bright red fruits and spiced plums with complexing hints of liquorice and spice making it aromatic and enchanting!! In other words, it smells divine!

How about the taste?
It’s bright and juicy - think fleshy raspberry, cherry and ripe black plum balanced by good acidity and subtle oak adding a touch of spice and complexity.

What food goes with it?
You can never go wrong in pairing this Sangiovese with tomato-based pizza or pasta, grilled vegetables or an antipasto platter. It’s also excellent slightly chilled on a warm summer’s day! That’s our kind of menu - mmm mmm

How is it made?
The grapes were delicately harvested in the cool of the morning to retain the fresh, vibrant style of Sangiovese we were chasing. Fermentation in tanks, followed by pressing and a short time in oak gave the wine a fruity brightness with gentle tannins.

Does this wine spend any time in oak barrels?
Yes - 70% in 2-6 year old French oak barriques with the balance in tank for this guy.

Winemakers Comments
After the challenges of 2020, the 2021 vintage seemed like a dream come true! Not too wet, not too dry, not too hot, not too cold… Just right in every way. The incredible season shines through this wine. Minimal intervention was needed to coax it from vineyard to bottle which allows the natural elegance, purity and balance to really shine in this wine.

Jeni Port - Halliday Wine Companion, 26 July, 2022

(2021 vintage)

“Sourced from 70/30% Alpine Valleys/King Valley and showing some classic lightly spiced cherries, juicy raspberry, anise and chocolate varietal characters. Maturation in old French oak has settled the tannin spark, bringing flesh and a plummy,. approachable roundness to the palate.”

Gabrielle Poy, The Real Review, 11 February, 2022

(2021 vintage)

"An alluring nose of spiced cherries, fresh leather and cured meats make way for a palate with a strong accent on jubey red fruits."

Stuart Knox, The Real Review, 12 June, 2021

(2020 vintage)

"Medium ruby-red core into a very bright and purple rim. Cherry juice, thyme and dry earth aromatics. Light and vibrant on the palate, with cherry fruit and smoky-char notes across the middle that is controlled by a hit of gravelly tannins. Not overly complex but a very easy-drinking red. Chill it slightly and order a pizza."

Jane Faulkner - Halliday Wine Companion, 13 August 2021

(2019 vintage)

“No pretence of reaching lofty heights, this is all about gluggability and sheer enjoyment. All cherry and berries, pips and a smudge of oak char with the fruit soft across the lighter-framed palate. Juicy with bright enough acidity and just enough oomph from the tannins.”

Class 14: Italian Red Varieties

Lifted sour cherry, savoury earthy notes, pretty wine with juicy red fruits, lively acid, chalky tannins - true to style. [Annette Lacey MW]. Cherry, truss, hints of sweet coppa, sour cherry notes, acid line. Fine gentle varietal tannins. Moderate length [Jack Glover]."

Wine Selectors, Selector Magazine, 14 January, 2021

(2019 vintage)

"Promoting itself as an unconventional wine brand with an emphasis on wines without pretence, Wine Unplugged are behind this medium to deep ruby Sangiovese. It opens with aromas of cherry, cranberry and pot pourri while the medium-bodied palate shows earthy, savoury fruits, vibrant acidity, medium-weight tannins, mouth-watering texture and a dry, earthy finish."

Jane Faulkner - Halliday Wine Companion, 20 June, 2021

(2018 vintage)

“It has all the spice lift, cherry fruit and appeal of the variety with its persuasive tannins although somewhat drying on the finish. But, it is lighter framed and rather delicious, too.”
