International Shiraz Day

There is no wine variety more synonymous with Australia wine than shiraz. It’s our most planted grape variety, grown in almost every wine condition, with each region having its own distinctive expressions.

Believed to have originated in France’s northern Rhône Valley, the first vines made their way to Australia in 1832 in the Busby collection. The oldest Shiraz vines in the world are in the Barossa Valley and date back to 1843. While Barossa Shiraz, with it’s big, bold flavours took centre stage for quite some time, areas such as Heathcote, Clare Valley and cool-climate wine regions have become well know for producing some of the best Shiraz in the country.

Our Pacha Mama Shiraz fruit is sourced from carefully selected vineyard sites that sit along the side of the Mount Camel Ridge on the ancient red volcanic. Geologists say the soils are over 500 million years old and it’s these soils that are renowned for producing rich and complex shiraz. We strive to harness the power often found in Heathcote Shiraz to create a wine of elegance and balance.

The result is a perfectly balanced wine with enticing aromas of blackberries, plums, floral notes and warm winter spices. Medium to full bodied and loaded with concentrated black berry fruits. Juicy brambles, nutmeg and dark chocolate envelop the palate, supported by finely structured tannins  and great length. Time to get a little Shiraz back in your life!
